Nach längerer Zeit endlich mal wieder ein gutes Sachbuch über den klassischen ersten Star Wars Film. Das Buch wirkt hin und wieder etwas trocken, wenn um Finanzen, Vertragsdetails usw. geht, und zwar kommen die Darsteller und bedeutende Mitarbeiter wie u.a. Ralph McQuarrie nicht so häufig wie erhofft zu Wort, aber nach dem etwas zähen Anfang schildert das Buch dann sehr detailliert die Entstehung des "Krieg der Sterne".Interessant sind vor allem die vielen Anekdoten von George Lucas, Gary Kurtz und John Dykstra. So geht das Buch recht umfassend auf die Dreharbeiten, sowie die monatelange Arbeit an den Spezialeffekten, Sound, Schnitt usw. ein. Man erfährt z.B., das Lucas eine Szene im Drehbuch hatte, in der Darth Vader in einer Kristallkammer Kontakt mit den Sithlords aufnimmt, welche aber gestrichen wurde.Auch die diversen Drehbuchfassungen (von denen George Lucas einige geschrieben hat) werden ausführlich erläutert. Am Ende geht das Buch dann noch auf sämtliche Drehbuchentwürfe ein, fasst den Inhalt und die Unterschiede zusammen und schildert die Evolution des finalen Scripts.Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Bücher bietet dieses tatsächlich seltenes Bildmaterial. Einen Großteil der Fotos hat man zuvor nie gesehen.Auch stellt das Buch nochmals zwei Dinge klar, daß Lucas bereits damals (bevor der erste Film abgedreht war) definitiv beabsichtigte, die Vorgeschichte zu verfilmen, sowie das Anakin Skywalker und Darth Vader noch zwei verschiedene Personen waren.Ich will nicht behaupten, dieses Buch wäre das beste zum Thema. In manchen Bereichen ist es besser als andere Bücher, in manchen etwas schlechter. Am besten sollte man dieses Buch in einem Aufwasch mit Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays und Empire Building (bzw. die deutsche Auflage Star Works) lesen, da sich diese drei Bücher wirklich hervorragend ergänzen.Autor JW Rinzler soll bereits an einem entsprechenden Buch über "Das Imperium schlägt zurück" arbeiten, und ich freue mich darauf, es zu lesen.
Neben den mittlerweile fast schon vergriffenen STAR WARS Chroniken, gehört dieses Monster zum Besten was die SW Welt an Sachbüchern hervorgebracht hat. In unglaublichem Detail wird hier der Entstehungsprozess von A NEW HOPE dargelegt. Verlorene Interviews, sowie massig rare, bisher unveröffentlichte Fotos fesseln den Leser. Ich kann dieses Buch wirklich jedem SW Fan ans Herz legen. Und unbedingt drauf achten, dass man die Hardcoverausgabe bekommt, enthällt sie über 40 Seiten Bonusmaterial.Unbedingt Kaufen!!!!!
War ein Weihnachtsgeschenk für einen Fan.Ist sehr gut angekommen, kann also an ältere Fans weiterempfohlen und geschenkt werden.
Top, alles wat je maar wil weten als fan
In diesem Buch hat es sehr schöne und spannende Fotos über die Entstehung von Star Wars.Alles ist auf Englisch, kann es sehr empfehlen.

Anscheinend kann man es mir nur schwierig rechtmachen, denn anders kann ich es nicht erklären, warum meine Wertungen immer schlechter ausfallen als die von meinen Mitrezensienten.Ich habe schon einige sehr gute inoffizielle Making Ofs von der vierten Episode der Krieg der Sterne Saga gelesen, sei es nur in Romanform mit/und ohne Bildern oder was auch immer...Als Taschenbuchausgabe war mir dieses neue Making Of nur recht und ich habe es mir gleich zugelegt. Sicher ein ordentlicher Wälzer für echte Fans, die noch kein anderes Enstehungsbuch gelesen haben, aber für Cineasten, die sich mit dem Dreharbeiten und der Produktion schon befaßt haben eher ein kleines Update. Für mich gab es wenig neue Infos, aber ein paar neue Fotos...naja immerhin.Fazit: Für das Cover und ein paar gelungene Schnappschüsse gebe ich 3 Sterne. Das Making Of zu Episode V ist schon in Planung. Darauf freue ich mich mehr, denn zu EP V-VI ist die Literatur kürzer und spärlicher.

Considering how much time has passed, it's amazing the amount of material that has been collected for this book.There are twelve chapters documenting the journey from the scripting stage, casting, set building, location shooting, all the way up to the movie release.This book is written before anyone knew it was going to be a major hit. What that means is, they are writing it on the spot at that point in time -- in 1977. There's nothing closer to understanding what's going on during production and on their minds while the shooting the movie.Included in the books are hundreds of behind-the-scenes photos, scanned scripts, sketches of sets and ships, several film stills and immensely valuable and insightful interviews. It's essentially a very well documented production diary.There are lots of details included. Read about how George Lucas was a compulsive writer who doesn't and cannot stop working. Find out how they overcome crisis like when one of their robots caught fire. Share their euphoria when they first received reactions from movie goers. And I can go on and on.This is the definitive volume. It's well worth the money for any Star Wars fan or movie maker.There are two covers for this book, a hardcover and the paperback. It's highly recommended to get the hardcover, more expensive, version. This book is big and thick at 314 pages.
